Flower Stone Sun & Water
Custom Formulas at Days
7.21.18 @2-5pm

From a desire to bridge conscious awareness between urban and natural landscapes, Saewon has been creating an ever growing collection of local flower, stone and environmental essences made in the LA wilderness.
Essences are made from an alchemical process involving sunlight, ceremony and the receptive nature of water. When used therapeutically, these waters shift our emotional and energetic patterning in both subtle and dramatic ways. They remind us that our feelings, perspectives, and identities are mutable and boundless.
Saewon will offer one-on-one sessions to create custom blended formulas based on each individual’s specific needs. A session will include a guided plant meditation that will connect you to your formula and support the development of your intuitive inner guidance.
Accompanying Ikebana flower arrangements and kefir spritzes provided by Jennifer Miller.

How do radical ambitions of “self-care” persist or depart from capitalist society’s preoccupation with wellness and the industry surrounding it, particularly when filtered through technological advances? How can we imagine personal wellness that complicates or diverges from capitalist and consumerist tendencies? Taking its name from the common valediction, which is both an expression of familiarity and an instruction of caution, take care, is a group exhibition that considers the many tensions surrounding the possibilities of self-care.

Long before it was a popular hashtag, self-care emerged from twentieth-century social justice movements. To take care of oneself correlated to the greater health of a community, an urgent issue in the face of widespread inequality and violence. As Audre Lorde famously stated, “Caring for myself is not self-indulgence, it is self-preservation, and that is an act of political warfare.” More recently, the term “self-care” has been commercially co-opted to sell products like spa treatments and skin cream. Further, bodies are thoroughly quantified with tracking devices, habits are caught up in cycles of accelerated production, and self-regulation exists in tandem with complex algorithmic processes that profit from individual surveillance. In order to ask what “self-care” means given this current scenario, take care, simultaneously looks back at potent activist histories and forward into speculative futures.

Plant Communication & Radical Communion: Spring Flower Essence Making
with Amanda Ackerman & Saewon Oh
5.19.18 @11 - 1:30pm
at Women's Center for Creative Work
2425 Glover Pl, Los Angeles, CA 90031

We are always communicating with the natural world. Through our gestures, breath, emotion, and visioning, we co-exist and co-evolve in a constant flow of interaction. However, our ability to notice these interactions is often obscured. This workshop will provide techniques for awakening our interspecies selves and engaging the language and intelligence of plants.  Opening ourselves to nonhuman worlds can promote unexpected, innovative, and deviant ways to care for ourselves and others.

To celebrate the springtime blooms, we will work with the WCCW garden, learning how to create and use flower essences — vibrational remedies that address the psycho-spiritual and energetic aspects of wellness.  Flower essences are gentle, safe, yet potent remedies for practicing daily self care and emotional balance. We will learn daily self-care applications with flower essences, and together will make a flower essence to take home.  Special focus will be given to remedies for activists, healers, dreamers, and anyone wishing to antidote our political present and/or make vital space for their own wellbeing.

All genders and backgrounds are welcome. No one turned away for lack of funds.

an Herbal Ceremony with Medea/Medusa and Sun Song
at Days 1709 N. Kenmore Ave. LA, CA 90027
12.19.17 @8:30pm-10 pm

On one of the darkest nights of the year, an invitation from Sarah Manuwal of Medea/Medusa and Saewon Oh of Sun Song to pause, release, and return through an intentional herbal ceremony. Working with native plants, the ceremony will move through the idea of the snake and shed past selves with White Sage essence, set boundaries and create a "new skin" with Tree Tobacco, and bring in new energies with Elderflower—all with the help of a Mugwort vinegar.

Join us to explore these archetypal ideas and to reset for the Solar New Year.
Come dive into the shadow self, release what is not serving you, and return with light.

Limited to 10 participants: $35
